Morris Photographic, formed in 1979 and originally based in Oxford, moved to its current Chipping Norton showroom in 2006.

In a message posted on its Facebook page, the business attributes its demise to a ‘hostile retail market’ that led to ‘falling profits on a yearly basis’.

Morris Photographic says that all customer orders have been supplied, or cancelled and refunded, adding that it owes no money to members of the public.

An earlier statement, released by Morris Photographic Centre this morning, confirmed that owner Colin Morris had ‘taken the decision to cease trading and, accordingly, the trading premises in Chipping Norton will not reopen’.

It added: ‘BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency have been instructed to advise and assist Mr Morris in the orderly wind down of the business.’

Morris Photographic – which ceased trading on 2 June – sold photographic equipment in-store and online but has been closed for the past 10 days, telling customers this was for a stock take.

‘It is with great regret that we have to inform you that after 35 years in retail Morris Photographic Centre, Chipping Norton regrettably ceased to trade on the 2nd June 2014; We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers and suppliers for their continued support throughout the years.

Unfortunately the hostile retail market has meant falling profits on a yearly basis until the situation became untenable in our present format, we remain hopeful that an offer will be accepted for the website and that the name and business will continue and prosper in a new and positive direction.

Our Customers as always have come first, all orders have been supplied or cancelled and refunded, there are no monies owed to members of the public, we have tried to ensure that our customers were as unaffected by this decision as possible.

All goods supplied are covered by the Manufacturers warranties and customers should get in touch with the Manufacturer should they require a guarantee repair.

Any other queries should be directed to BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency.’
