A candid photograph of iconic Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara on a fishing trip fetched more than three times its asking price at auction in Gloucestershire today.

The 18.5x28cm gelatin silver print, on fibre paper, is believed to have been captured by photographer Alberto Korda around 1960. It was printed by Korda in 1978.

It fetched £6,600 (hammer price) easily surpassing its estimate of £1,500-2,000.

Described as a rare photo it was cropped and enlarged from a larger image that shows the back of the former Cuban leader Fidel Castro?s head.

The Korda photos ? all signed ? were acquired from Korda before his death in 2001.

The gems include Castro meeting Ernest Hemingway in 1959 and Castro playing golf.

It total, the Cuba series raised more than £31,000.

The images were sold at Dominic Winter Book Auctions in South Cerney, Gloucestershire.
