Designed to be compact and light, the AF-S DX Nikkor 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR weighs 480g and is designed to cover a range of shooting situations from ‘sweeping landscapes to intimate portraiture’, according to Nikon.

It is due out this month priced £869.99.

The lens brings ‘pro-grade technology’ such as an electromagnetic diaphragm and a protective flourine coating to the DX range for the first time.

Edward Allinson, junior product manager for Lenses & Accessories at Nikon UK said, ‘The incredibly light and compact build of the lens means it’s the ideal travel companion, as it won’t take up too much space in your bag and is guaranteed to capture stunning images.’

Features also include a minimum focus distance of 35cm and an M/A focus mode switch for ‘seamless manual focus override’. The 17-elements-in-13-groups optic contains four extra-low dispersion elements.

Allinson added, ‘The fast f/2.8-4 aperture and adaptable wideangle to telephoto coverage means you can use it in any situation, and the Nano Crystal Coat and powerful Vibration Reduction system ensures that you’re well equipped with the latest innovations.’

Nikon has also today announced a pair of super-telephoto lenses in the shape of the AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4E FL ED VR (pictured) and AF-S Nikor 500mm f/4E FL ED VR, which are claimed to be 25% and 20% lighter than their respective predecessors.

According to Nikon, they have been made lighter thanks to the use of fluorite elements and a magnesium-alloy build.

New technology includes a sport mode for fast action and the latest vibration reduction technology boasting a ‘four-stop advantage’.
